Dhaka, August 12, 2025 — Bangladesh is grappling with a critical rise in dengue fever cases. As of now, 101 people have died from dengue, with over 24,000 reported infections across the country.
The situation is escalating rapidly. In August alone, health officials have recorded 19 fatalities, and experts predict that this month could see three times more cases than July, unless immediate action is taken.
The outbreak is fueled by warm, humid weather and sporadic rainfall—conditions ideal for Aedes mosquitoes to breed. Dhaka remains the worst-hit zone, but rural districts are also witnessing a surge in cases, putting extreme pressure on already strained healthcare facilities.
Doctors and public health experts are urging citizens to:
Use mosquito repellent and nets
Eliminate stagnant water around homes
Participate in coordinated mosquito spraying campaigns
Without widespread government-led interventions and active community involvement, Bangladesh risks repeating the devastating 2023 outbreak, which saw over 321,000 infections and 1,705 deaths.
